PLAN IT**
plan and sketch out your installation.
determine square footage of room.
length of room multiplied by width of room equals square footage.
EXAMPLE: for a 10' by 12' room- 10 x 12 = 120 square foot.
SIZE IT**
determine CFM of air needed to supply the room.
-CFM means " cubic feet per minute" and defines the amount of air flowing through a system.
SEAL IT**
Using mastic or HVAC grade code-approved tape, seal anywhere that could potentially leak air in the duct work system- seams, holes, connections. INSULATE IT**
make sure all pipe and fittings are wrapped in ductwork insulation.
If you use duct tape to repair and seal your ducts, look for tape with the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) logo to avoid tape that degrades, cracks, and loses its bond with age.
Whether you do it yourself or have a heating contractor do it, taking the time to inspect the system and, if necessary, repair it can do a lot toward keeping your home comfortable, and your heating and air conditioning bills to a minimum.
